Foxconn and NVIDIA: How Can AI-Driven Robotics Address the Projected 4.5 Million Nurse Shortage by 2030?

May 18, 2025

In response to the World Health Organization’s projection of a 4.5 million nurse shortage by 2030, Foxconn and NVIDIA have introduced “Nurabot,” an AI-powered collaborative nursing robot designed to alleviate the burden on healthcare professionals.

Strategic Deployment of Nurabot

Nurabot is currently being trialed in several Taiwanese hospitals, including Taichung Veterans General Hospital, Baishatun Tung Hospital – Mazu Hospital, and Cardinal Tien Hospital. These institutions are integrating Nurabot into their operations to enhance patient care and support nursing staff.

Technological Infrastructure

The development and deployment of Nurabot are supported by NVIDIA’s advanced AI technologies, including the NeMo framework and Hopper GPUs. These technologies enable Nurabot to perform tasks such as medication delivery, patient monitoring, and ward patrols.

Impact on Healthcare Operations

By automating routine tasks, Nurabot allows nursing staff to focus on more critical aspects of patient care, potentially improving overall hospital efficiency and patient outcomes.

Future Prospects

Looking ahead, the collaboration between Foxconn and NVIDIA aims to expand the capabilities of Nurabot, incorporating features like multilingual communication and advanced patient interaction, to further address the challenges posed by the impending nurse shortage.
